Gurnee VW Problems

Hi there,

I was searching through the Internet for complaints or
opinions about Jettas.  I noticed a link to your
website and just KNEW it would be talking about Gurnee
VW, and it was.

Let me see if I can put all of this in an e-mail again
after having done it SO MANY TIMES to Gurnee VW and VW
of America.

I bought a 2002 Jetta in February, 2002 from Gurnee VW.
I traded in a Golf that I had bought at Gurnee VW
about 8 months earlier.  I had to CONVINCE them that
the Golf was Certified Pre-Owned when they sold it to
me and according to VWs website was still Certified
Pre-Owned when I sold it back because it was under
75,000 miles.

Futhermore (and more important) is the fact that my
Jetta was a very bad ride.  I had test driven a Jetta
at another dealership, so figured that I would expect
the same considering it was a BRAND NEW CAR and I had
to wait to get it.  When it came time for my first
5,000 mile checkup/oil change...I took the car to
Jennings VW which is closer to my work and complained
about the ride.  They found out that Gurnee VW HAD
NEVER DONE THE PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION and that there
were "spacers" in the suspension.  So much for buying a
new car when I'm driving it for 5 months in Chicago
construction w/o a working suspension.  Yes...some of
those bumps slammed very hard, but I figured...it's a
new car...is it the low-profile tires or what?

Of course it rode much better with the "spacers" out.
I called Gurnee VW and complained.  I took the car back
to them to make sure the pre-delivery inspection could
now be done in it's entirety.  I complained to everyone
there and Bob Rohrman.  They finally agreed on giving
me free oil changes for as long as I own the car.
However...I still have not seen the paperwork for that.
Also...that only guarantees that I come to them for
service. I asked for a one year or 10,000 mile warranty
extension, but was denied.

I still think there's something wrong with my Jetta.
It doesn't seem to downshift soon enough and kind of
bogs down when you slow down to around 30 mph and then
need to go.  I keep reading articles about how smooth
the acceleration is.  I can REALLY FEEL THE TURBO LAG.
Sometimes I'm pushing down further and further on the
gas with no response (if not losing speed) and then
suddenly it jerks into one OR TWO gears lower.
Sometimes when this happens I've already let off the
gas for fear of slamming into something and you can
hear the transmission try to go from 4th to 2nd to 4th
and it just sounds ridiculous.

If you have any suggestions for me, please let me know.
Also...please let me know if you have experienced any
of those performance problems.  I would like to get
them taken care of.  When I took it in for the
Pre-Delivery Insp. I mentioned the problem, but the
mechanic went for a ride with me and said "you
know...this transmission is adaptive".  It sure the
hell doesn't adapt to my driving!  He acts like I'm NOT
the one who drives this car everyday.  That dealership
just continues to infuriate me.

Thanks for letting me vent,

Brian M.
