When my wife was shopping for a new vehicle The Sales people NEVER mentioned that they were experiencing problems with New Volkswagon engines burning oil. When we had the car serviced for the first time & noticed 2000 miles later that there was 1 & 1/2 quarts of oil missing that the service department mentioned that this model as well as other new models "will burn 1 to 2 quarts per 1000 to 2000 miles of use .. really it is on page 38 of your owners manual." They also specified that if we did have further problems that we should probably check the oil every time we fill up the gas tank. If we did experience any problems we could go to the nearest VW dealership & they would top off the oil at no charge. That has not been offered once in the 6 months that we have called the dealer to say the oil level has gone down. They alwasy respond " well top it off yourself & try a heavier wieght oil. That might help your problem."
