Just stumbled upon this site...What they say about "misery loves company" is true.

I own a '99 New Golf.  When still a "new" car, I paid out-of-pocket to fix faulty brake parts and resultingly destroyed pads.

Inside fixtures are junk.  I've broken two glove boxes, and I hardly open the friggin' thing.

Both of my key fobs are currently held together with packing tape.  I refuse to pay the exorbitant amount of money for replacements.

I went through the entire faulty-window mechanism nightmare in July of 2002.  The window diappeared into the door, not to be seen until I got my hands on back-ordered parts, some 3 weeks later.  Very convenient.

Now, in 2003, the flavor-of-the-day is electrical issues.  I am driving down the highway, and my interior light comes on and the car starts dinging like the door is open.  The door is not open.  Not a bit annoying/distracting as I deal with D.C. traffic.

The automatic door locks work when they feel like it.

In every circumstance, I have received horrid support from VW dealership(s).  Service reps are obviously exhausted with the disgruntled VW-owning public.  They toss my issues upon the heap of current and outstanding complaints with disdain and offer me a service appointment 2-weeks out.  Similar response from 800-number/customer services.

Hondas, anyone?

If the author of the post reads this, please, email me: ckmquinn@cs.com. I have had IDENTICAL problems with my 1999 Jetta. I would love to correspond further about this, especially the fragile key units that VW charges over $200 to replace! Let's unite and put some pressure on these do-nothings! Anyone else with similar sentiments is also welcome to write. (For more detail on my Jetta misadventures, read my post on the vwsucks.com site).
