I am very sorry to hear what happened to you at Gurnee
VW. Perhaps, it's not the Gurnee shop but all VW
dealerships, in general.
Back in 1999, I bought what was supposed to be a
finely executed German automobile. It was winning
awards left and right. This vehicle was the VW
Passat.
I bought a top-of-the-line VW Passat GLX wagon. It
was everything I wanted- luxury, sport, and utility
all in one. Little did I know, that it would also be
a moneypit or rather, a P.O.S.
A week into ownership: I experienced electrical
gremlins. The interior lights would come on for no
reason and go off when I had the switch on. The
stereo would turn off if I hit a bump or left it in
the on position when I turned the engine off. As soon
as I started it again, the stereo would not work.
A month into ownership: The brakes start squeeling.
I cannot understand how a month-old car could have
squeeling brakes, so I take it into the dealership.
The service manager tells me that he can't remedy the
situation because of what the brake pads are made of.
He then shows me an internal document stating that
nothing can be done, except to change the brake pads
to a different material. I have this done.
6 weeks into ownership: The electrical gremlins are
back. The dealership cannot seem to fix the problem.
2 months into ownership: The interior headliner and
trim pieces fall off. The dealership replaces the
headliner and trim, stating that it was probably the
hot AZ sun that did it. (I had a Chevy Silverado for
several years in the hot AZ sun and nothing fell off
of it.)
3 months into ownership: The squeeling brakes are
back as are the gremlins. Additionally, the paint is
beginning to chip in spots. I am told that the
chipping paint is not a part of the warranty. If I
want the paint fixed, I will have to pay for a new
paintjob.
4 months into ownership: The engine's bearings are
warped. They can do nothing but replace the engine.
I tell them that I want out of the car because it is
not worth my time anymore. On a 30K dollar car with
10K miles on it, they offer me 15K. I say this is
unacceptable and want them to put me into a different
car for something close to what I paid. They tell me,
no; however, they'll be more than willing to show me
some vehicles in the 20-22K range that they will trade
for the car. I say, fine. I am carted around the
dealership and shown cars that 1) are used and 2) are
in need of a little "TLC".
5 months into ownership: I sell the car for 22K to a
private buyer.
Two weeks later, I see my car (same VIN #) on the
dealership's lot. The price: 28K and change.
Needless to say, I will never buy another VW nor will
I ever shop at Beaudry VW, Beaudry Porsche, or Beaudry
Audi in Tucson, AZ.
Additionally, throughout this time, the left front
fender looked mis-shapen. I find out that either the
dealer or VW of America had an accident with the car
and replaced the front fender without telling me when
I bought it. NEVER BUY A VW!
Thankyou for taking the time to read my email and I,
once again, am sorry for your experience with VW.
