little help with cd changer??

i got a new 8 disc cd changer for x-mas. website said compatible w/12 pin plug in trunk. when i got it, the cable on the changer wasn't compatible. ordered a $50 cable that said vw to changer adapter...still doesn't fit. am i going to have to go to the dealer and get the stereo "programmed" to accept the changer?? any info appreciated!

Unless you bought the changer from VW, you need an adapter cable. I successfully added a changer to a 1999 Jetta a year ago. Panasonics are the ONLY ones that work, btw, so if you did not buy a Panasonic do not expect it to work even with the adapter.
