I own a 1999 Jetta that consumes oil. A LOT of oil. One quart per 630 miles to be exact. And I'm not making this up, this is what VW calculated from their oil consumption test. I've had numerous other problems such as a broken radiator valve and broken water pump but the excess oil comsumption is what concerns me the most. I could go on and on about how ineffective the customer service and service advisors are but my reason for bitching is to advise everyone to LOOK INTO THE LEMON LAWS FOR YOUR STATE especially if you live in California as I do. Basically, the CA law say that if you complain about the same problem 4 times and VW fails to fix the problem, it qualifies as a lemon. Obviously, there is more to it than that but if you are reading this you are internet savvy and can do your own research. JUST REMEMBER, MAKE SURE YOU GET AN INVOICE THAT SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBES YOUR PROBLEM EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU TAKE YOUR CAR IN!!!!! Right now I'm in the process of filing a claim through a lemon law lawyer. Not sure if I am going to get my money back, yet. But what do I have to lose!!! I only pay lawyer fees if I win. It's worth a shot. You may get all of your money back. T. Woo From EComplaints

I have a 1999 Passat Wagon and have had a buring oil smell for the past 18 months.  It has been to a few dealers numerous times and all they ever to is replace gaskets.  They have also replaced turbo charger, mas air flow, and ecery possible gasket.>>

 >>

We have even had the VW Rep in - but it still burns.  It is worse when it sits idle and does not happen wheh the AC is on.>>

 >>

I just got it back from the delaer two days ago and the smell is still there - of course on their invoice they claim the smell is gone.  They are such liars and all the serivce people know how to do is replace parts.>>

I have decided to access the lemon law
