VW Poor Quality

Since the car was delivered, in April of 2000, it has produced an annoying humming noise when the car is traveling between 55 and 65 km/h (35-41 mph)--normal city driving speeds. This noise is audible over normal conversation and is sometimes the source of headaches for my wife. Since May of 2000, I have attempted to have this fixed by Volkswagen. It turns out that this is a known problem--called a noisy final drive, typical for 2000 VR6 Jettas with an automatic transmission--which Volkswagen seems to be in no hurry to fix. Whenever I speak to Volkswagen Canada's customer service or my service manager at Don Valley Volkswagen, I get the same line, "...but it doesn't affect the performance of the car." It may not, but I was under the impression that I had purchased a relatively refined German automobile, not a homemade project. It is now March of 2001 and I have yet to be compensated financially or have my car fixed.
